ECA Facilities
Facilities
Facilities within the compound are excellent, with most berths being within easy reach of a power supply. Mains water supply is available at points around the compound perimeter fence and in the workshop area. There are two workshops, with arc welding, drilling, cutting and grinding equipment and a lathe, together with an undercover area for repairs on vessels up to 18' LOA. Use of some of the equipment is restricted to suitably trained members.
Three heavy trailers and a heavy tractor are available for launching and recovering large vessels while our close proximity to Southsea Marina also provides the option of using the Marina's facilities to bring large boats ashore in the ECA compound.
We have two mini tractors to assist in moving smaller boats around the compound and two electric winches which enable boats up to 20' to be launched and recovered on the main slipway. This slipway gives access at all states of the tide into the main Langstone Channel (The Run) and crosses a clean shingle beach. The slipway is also served by a washing-off grid and an outboard motor rinsing tank.
A second slipway into Eastney Lake is useable at half tide and above and here a scrubbing-off grid with substantial poles has been newly provided in 2010.
ECA rents from Langstone Harbour Board six deep water moorings in Langstone Channel adjacent to the clubhouse and these are for the occasional use of members.
There is a locked outboard store and a compressor for charging tested diving bottles. On Thursday evenings from 1900 hours ECA has a one-hour private session at Eastney Swimming Pool, to which all members and their families are welcome. A small charge is made.
The clubhouse is modern and well-appointed, the bar and galley having been refurbished in 2010 and with superb sea views both from within the clubhouse and from the extensive balcony. The bar is fully staffed and the galley is operated as a franchise so there is no "rota" to be performed by members as is customary in some clubs. We have an active social calendar with events including the regatta, Commodore's reception, Caribbean night, Summer Ball and ever-popular quiz nights.
Security
Security against theft is a growing requirement in all boating clubs and marinas. In 1991 the ECA instituted a permanently manned ‘Nightwatch’ scheme to provide security cover every night and this has been highly successful in preventing theft. The road gates and sea gates are locked at night and card operated barriers on the main gates prevent unauthorised vehicular access at all times, with access also being logged. A webcam overlooks the compounds and gates and there is also a network of recorded cctv cameras with plans for this to be extended. Entry to the clubhouse is by card for added security.
