ECA Sailing Section
Welcome to ECA Sailing Section!
The ECA Sailing Section welcomes all sailors. We have a full programme of yacht racing & cruising events and a very mixed fleet. Racing events are scheduled every Wednesday evening in the Spring & Summer - 2 series of 8 races - followed by curry in our excellent club house. We also have special events such as The Nab Race & Round the Island Race - see the links below for more details.
You don’t have to be an Olympian to compete and you can almost guarantee you will not come last (as that will be me). Taking part & having a good time is the order of the day. We also have cruises in the Solent & to France, BBQ’s at Newtown Creek on the Isle of Wight & more. The odd film night has also been known. Communication amongst members is facilitated by the ECA Forum and our SMS text messaging system. If you'd like to receive sailing-section related texts, please contact us. And to take part in the hot debates about new projects at the club (such as the purchase of a new club hydraulic boat hoist) join the ECA Forum.
I joined the ECA 25 years ago because I could launch my old Firefly dinghy at any state of tide and I could get a boat space. I’ve loved every minute of my membership, whether it has been on the water sailing, fishing or being scared senseless in the back of a rib. I have especially enjoyed the friends I have met, many a cheap pint on the balcony admiring our amazing view, dancing the night away at Summer Balls & other party nights, or simply sitting on the beach with my family watching the boats go by. I’ve even swum the harbour entrance on Regatta Day.
We currently have spaces for dinghies, but we do not have any dinghy racing events at present, except on Regatta Day, but many members race with the Locks SC (across Eastney Lake) - with whom ECA has a close relationship.
