History of the ECA

Since it was founded in 1958, the ECA has grown steadily in size and now occupies a site of approximately two acres at the entrance to Langstone Harbour, with a membership of 750. It has a fine clubhouse with an excellent bar and galley and superb sea views from its extensive balcony. The compound provides approximately 440 boat spaces, which are heavily in demand, for all types of vessel from sailboards and tenders up to 11 metre cruisers. Slipway access is available at all states of the tide into the main Langstone channel, and powered winches are provided to assist launch and recovery. A further slipway provides access into Eastney Lake at half tide and above. The ECA rents from Langstone Harbour Board six deep water moorings, for the occasional use of members, in Langstone channel adjacent to the clubhouse.

All types of boating activity, with the exception of jet skis, are welcomed, i.e. sailboard, dinghy and catamaran racing, sailing and motor cruisers,Gig racing section, fishing, diving, power-boating and skiing, and there are several active sections within the Association to promote these activities. However, you may simply prefer to “do your own thing”.

Facilities within the compound are excellent, with most berths being within easy reach of a power supply. There are two workshops, with arc welding and drilling equipment, and an undercover area for repairs. Two heavy trailers and two tractors are available for launching and recovering large vessels, and mini tractors to assist in moving smaller boats around the compound. A locked outboard store is also available, as is a compressor for charging diving bottles.

Security against theft is a growing requirement in all boating clubs and marinas, and in 1991 the ECA instituted a ‘Nightwatch’ scheme to provide security cover every night. This has been highly successful in preventing theft. Card operated barriers on the main gates prevent unauthorised vehicular access at all times of the day and night. Entrance to the clubhouse is by fob entry also for added security.
